Hire Bands for Events: Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore
A live band turns a room full of guests making small talk into a room that remembers the night. Here is what it costs, how it works, and what to confirm before you sign.

To hire bands for events in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Macau or Phuket, you choose a band size for your guest count and venue, confirm power and stage space with the venue manager, and book 6 to 12 weeks ahead through an agency. A 3 to 4-piece band for a corporate function or wedding typically runs SGD 2,500 to 4,500 for a 4-hour set. Larger 6-piece bands for 150 or more guests run SGD 4,500 to 8,000 or more. Confirm the exact quote for your city before you commit.

Band sizes, prices and what they suit
The band size you pick depends on three things: guest count, venue space and the sound you want to fill the room with. Prices below are for a standard 4-hour booking and vary by experience, demand and date. We quote in SGD here because that is our Singapore benchmark rate; for Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Macau or Phuket we confirm the equivalent in HKD, THB or MYR once we know your date and venue.
| Band size | Guests suited | Price guide (SGD, 4-hour set) | Stage space needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 3-piece acoustic | 20 to 50 | SGD 1,200 to 2,000 | 2m x 2m |
| 3 to 4-piece band | 50 to 150 | SGD 2,500 to 4,500 | 3m x 4m |
| 5 to 6-piece band | 150 to 300 | SGD 4,500 to 8,000 or more | 4m x 5m |
A 2-piece acoustic duo suits an intimate dinner of 20 to 30 guests in a private home or small restaurant function room. A 3 to 4-piece band is the standard choice for weddings, hotel ballroom receptions and corporate functions of 50 to 150 guests, in Hong Kong hotel ballrooms, Bangkok riverside venues or Singapore function rooms alike. A 5 to 6-piece band with drummer, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and one or two vocalists suits larger events of 150 to 300 people and open-air venues such as Sentosa pavilions, Phuket beach clubs or Marina Bay waterfront spaces, where the sound needs to carry further. More players means more stage footprint and higher cost, but also more flexibility: the same band can play acoustic for cocktail hour, then plug in for dinner and dancing. Ask your venue manager for stage dimensions before you book, not after. You can browse acts by size and style on our act type page or filter by occasion on our event type page.
How to hire bands for events in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore
We run this from two offices, Lee Garden Two in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, and Park Ventures Ecoplex on Wireless Road in Bangkok, and book talent for events across Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Macau and Phuket. The process is the same wherever your event is: you send us the date, city, venue name, guest count and the style of music you want, and we propose band options that match your budget and timeline.
Once you pick a band, we send an agreement and a deposit invoice, typically 30 to 50 percent of the total fee. The balance is due one to two weeks before the event. Two to three weeks out, you get a planning call with the band leader or our team, where you lock the setlist, confirm technical requirements and run through the event timeline. If you are planning a corporate event across Asia or a wedding with entertainment in multiple cities, mention that upfront so we can keep the booking, invoicing and logistics consistent across venues. Reach the booking team directly through our contact page or on WhatsApp at +65 9428 4249.
Setlist, song requests and genre fit
Every band carries a core setlist of 50 to 80 songs they rehearse constantly and perform consistently. When you book, you can request specific songs, but there is a difference between a request and a guarantee. A professional band will tell you upfront which of your requested songs are already in their repertoire and which would need to be learned from scratch.
If you want a band to add three or four new songs, such as a first dance track or a family tribute piece, expect a learning fee of SGD 200 to 400 per song, and give at least three weeks' notice. Standard cultural requests, like a Mandarin or Cantonese cover for a Lunar New Year event, a Thai classic for a Bangkok crowd, or a Malay number for a Kuala Lumpur reception, are usually included at no extra charge since most working bands already carry these in their setlist. For corporate events, tell us the vibe early: upbeat pop and funk to energise networking, smooth jazz for a formal dinner, or a mix of genres for a mixed-age room. The band adjusts, but they need weeks of notice, not a briefing the night before.
Sound, power and technical requirements
A live band is not plug-and-play. A 4-piece band typically needs two to three 13-amp outlets, ideally on separate circuits. A 6-piece band with a full drum kit and backline needs four to six outlets. If your venue has only one or two sockets, you will need an extension reel or a temporary power distribution board arranged in advance, and that costs extra.
Acoustic environment matters as much as power. A hotel ballroom with good acoustic treatment sounds tight and controlled. An open rooftop bar or outdoor beach venue in Phuket sounds boomy or loses sound unevenly. Most professional bands bring a small mixing console and speakers, but in a difficult acoustic space you may need a dedicated sound engineer. Budget SGD 300 to 600 for a sound engineer for a 4-hour event. Tell us about the acoustic environment when you book, not when the band arrives.
| Band size | Power outlets needed | Setup time | Sound engineer recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-piece acoustic | 1 to 2 | 20 to 30 minutes | No |
| 3 to 4-piece | 2 to 3 | 30 to 45 minutes | For venues over 100 guests |
| 5 to 6-piece | 4 to 6 | 45 to 60 minutes | Yes, for outdoor or large rooms |
Venue rules and noise restrictions by city
Rules on amplified music vary a lot between the cities we work in, and it is your venue, not the band, that usually sets the ceiling. In Singapore, HDB void decks and some public spaces carry a 95 to 100 decibel limit and require a noise variance permit, which can take two to four weeks to process. Hotel ballrooms and dedicated function spaces across Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur generally already have house sound systems and manage noise internally, so there is less to negotiate.
For rooftop bars, beach clubs and waterfront venues, whether that is Sentosa or Marina Bay in Singapore, a riverside venue in Bangkok, or a beach venue in Phuket, confirm with the venue directly that live amplified music is permitted and at what time cutoff. In Macau, large hotel and casino resort venues handle most of this internally but still need advance notice for load-in routes. Also confirm stage placement, backdrop options, and load-in and load-out times with the venue. A band needs 30 to 45 minutes to set up before guests arrive and 30 minutes to break down afterwards. If the venue bills by the hour, build this time into your booking.
The most expensive mistake
Booking a band before confirming power, stage space and acoustic conditions with the venue. Bands have arrived on the day to find no spare power outlets, no stage footprint once furniture is set, or an open-air space that swallows sound. That delays the start of the event and is stressful for everyone involved. Confirm these three things with your venue manager in writing before you sign the band contract, not after.
Lead time: when to book
Book a band 6 to 12 weeks ahead for a standard corporate or wedding event. During high season, December through February and June through August across most of our cities, popular bands book out 4 to 6 months ahead. If you have a specific band in mind for a wedding date or a company dinner, lock availability as early as possible rather than waiting on a venue contract to finalise first.
Booking with less notice is possible but costs more. If you book with three weeks' notice instead of three months, expect a rush fee of roughly 10 to 20 percent on top of the standard rate. Friday and Saturday night bookings during peak season also run higher than a Wednesday afternoon slot. Some agencies add a travel or transport fee for venues outside the city centre or on islands like Sentosa, Pulau Ubin or parts of Phuket. Ask for an all-in quote in writing before you commit.
Common mistakes when you hire bands for events
- Assuming full equipment is included. Most bands bring amplifiers and a mixer, but not all provide monitors, vocal mic stands or lighting as standard. Ask what is included and what is billed separately.
- Underestimating setup time. If the band has to load in through a lobby or a service elevator, setup takes longer. Confirm access and timing with the venue three weeks ahead.
- Booking a style that does not match the crowd. A high-energy funk band at a reception full of guests in their sixties will not land. Tell us the age range and cultural mix of your guests.
- Finalising the setlist one week out. If you want new songs learned, raise it at the planning call, not the week before. Last-minute song changes are stressful and may cost extra.
- Not previewing the band first. Watch a video or ask for footage from a past event before you book. It tells you more about sound quality and stage presence than any written description.
If your event also calls for a visual act alongside the music, such as an acrobatic show for an opening segment or belly dancers for a themed dinner, we can package these with the band booking under one contract and one point of contact.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire bands for events in Hong Kong, Bangkok or Singapore?
A 2 to 3-piece acoustic band runs roughly SGD 1,200 to 2,000 for a 4-hour set, a 3 to 4-piece band for a wedding or corporate function runs SGD 2,500 to 4,500, and a 5 to 6-piece band for a large event runs SGD 4,500 to 8,000 or more. These are Singapore benchmark figures; Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Macau and Phuket quotes are converted to local currency and confirmed per date.
How far in advance should I hire bands for events?
Book 6 to 12 weeks ahead for a standard corporate event or wedding. During peak season, December through February and June through August, popular bands can be booked out 4 to 6 months in advance. Booking with less than three weeks' notice is sometimes possible but usually adds a rush fee of 10 to 20 percent.
Can a band play at an HDB void deck in Singapore?
Yes, but you need written approval from the relevant town council and a noise permit. Void decks carry decibel limits and restricted playing hours, often 10am to 10pm on weekends and earlier on weekdays. Tell your agency you are booking a void deck so they can advise on sound levels and help with the permit timeline, which can take two to four weeks.
What is the minimum band size for an outdoor event in Phuket or Bangkok?
For 50 to 100 guests at a rooftop bar or outdoor venue, a 3-piece band is usually enough if the space is not too large. For over 100 guests at a beach club or open waterfront venue, book at least a 4-piece so the sound carries and the band stays visible. Outdoor spaces lose sound fast, so you need more volume and stage presence than an indoor room of the same size.
Do bands play Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai or other cultural songs?
Most professional bands we book already carry Mandarin and Cantonese cover songs for Lunar New Year events, and bands based in Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur typically know Thai or Malay standards too. If you want a specific dialect song, a Hari Raya or Diwali piece, or a less common request, flag it weeks ahead so the band can learn and rehearse it properly.
What happens if a band member is sick on the day of my event?
Professional agencies keep substitute musicians on call for exactly this situation. When you book through an agency rather than directly with one musician, you are covered if someone falls ill or has a last-minute conflict. Ask your agency what their substitution policy is before you sign, and get it in writing as part of the agreement.
Can a band play during dinner and then switch to dance music?
Yes. This is called a split set and is standard at weddings and corporate dinners. The band plays lower-volume background music during the seated meal, then shifts to an energetic set once dinner clears for mingling or dancing. Confirm the exact timing and transition moment with the band at your pre-event planning call.
What is included in the price when I hire bands for events through an agency?
A standard quote usually covers the musicians, their instruments, a basic PA system and a set length of around four hours. It typically does not include a dedicated sound engineer, stage risers, extra power distribution, or song learning fees for new requests. Always ask for a line-item breakdown so you know what is standard and what is billed on top.
